The success of Project IGI led to the development of a sequel, IGI 2: Covert Strike, which was released in 2003. This sequel introduced multiplayer support, better AI, improved graphics, and a more refined user interface. It maintained the strategic gameplay of the original while enhancing visual quality and mission diversity. Despite its improvements, many fans still consider the first IGI game as more impactful due to its originality and pioneering gameplay mechanics. Over the years, there has been speculation about a third installment. In 2019, it was announced that a prequel titled IGI: Origins was in development by Antimatter Games. This upcoming title aims to revive the franchise with modern graphics and gameplay, potentially bringing the IGI name to a new generation of players.
